Join us at the Savoy on Wednesday 4th December 2024 for the London Dinner!

This year’s London Dinner will take place at The Savoy on Wednesday, 4th December 2024. Our guests of honour, Nick Hancock (Homerton 1981-85) and Eleanor Oldroyd (Girton 1981-84), will entertain us after dinner with amusing anecdotes from the world of sport.

Nick, an actor and TV presenter, graduated from Homerton in 1985 with a degree in English & Education. Nick was President of the Cambridge Footlights in 1984 and represented the Falcons at football and the Crusaders at cricket. A career on stage and television included hosting the BBC TV comedy sports quiz, “They Think It’s All Over” and presenting the radio and TV show, Room 101. He enjoys fishing and is a passionate supporter of Stoke City Football Club.

Eleanor, an award-winning BBC Sports presenter, graduated from Girton in 1984 with a degree in Modern Languages. She was Editor of the student newspaper Stop Press (Varsity) reporting on the University cricket & hockey teams. Eleanor‘s career as a broadcaster and journalist started in local radio before joining BBC Radio Sport in 1991. She has covered 13 Summer & Winter Olympics including Paris 2024. Eleanor co-hosts Weekend Breakfast on 5 Live and is a regular panellist on 5 Live’s Fighting Talk. She sings in her local choir and recently combined two of her greatest loves with a documentary for Radio 4, Perfect Pitch: From Choir Stalls to Cricket Balls.

Our Chairman, Angus Pollock (Trinity 1981-84), graduated with a degree in Land Economy. He was awarded three Football Blues (1981-83) and three Cricket Blues (1982-84), captaining the XI at Lord’s in 1984. He joined Deloitte and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1988 being admitted to the partnership in 1997. Angus enjoyed a thirty-year career with the Firm working as a Forensic Accountant. In retirement, he relaxes on the golf course and enjoys watching cricket.

As usual, complimentary Cobra Beer will be served from 6.30pm and there will be reduced ticket prices for recent graduates and residents. We urge you to contact your fellow Hawks to make them aware of the date.
